Bonjour,

Three items this week.

Scott Middle School Spotlight in The Immersion Conversation

The Spring 2026 issue of The Immersion Conversation features Scott Middle School’s DLI program in a full spotlight, written by lead French immersion teacher Mandy Migues. The piece highlights their new SMS Community French Table, where older native Louisiana French speakers — many punished for speaking French in school as children — now sit and converse with the next generation learning the language through immersion. Worth reading. Thanks to LPSS School Board Member Roddy Bergeron for flagging it.

KPLC Covers the French Spelling Bee at Gillis Elementary

KPLC ran a great piece last week on the French spelling bee at Gillis Elementary, featuring students from both Gillis and Prien Lake. Organizer Marie Guizonne told the station she hopes to keep it going for years to come. Good visibility for our Calcasieu immersion community.
