Bonjour beaux amis de l'immersion française!

We made it through hurricane season with Louisiana's French immersion community intact, and we have updates and upcoming events to share with you.

Événement

Parleaux-nous à boire!

Louisiana Parents for French Immersion is excited to host our first New Orleans-area French Immersion Family Social, and we'd love for you to join us!

When: Friday, January 17, 2026 (exact time TBA)
Where: Parleaux Beer Lab, 634 Lesseps St, New Orleans (Bywater)

Families from all NOLA-area French immersion schools are invited—whether your children attend École Bilingue, Audubon Charter, Lycée Français, International School of Louisiana, or Edward Hynes. This is a chance to connect with other francophone and francophile families from across the city in a relaxed setting. Parleaux is owned by an École Bilingue family, so you'll be among friends.

What we'll discuss:

We'll keep things casual, but we also want to share some exciting updates:

  • Who we are: A brief introduction to LPFI and how we support French immersion families statewide

  • The state of French immersion in Louisiana: An informal Q&A on what's happening across the 44 immersion programs in our state

  • Le Grand Pique-Nique comes to New Orleans: For the first time, Louisiana's largest French immersion celebration is coming to New Orleans on April 12, 2026, hosted at Audubon Charter's Live Oak Campus. We'll share what's in store and how NOLA families can get involved.

  • Legislative priorities: A preview of the legislation LPFI plans to advance during the upcoming session

Mostly, though, this is a social—a chance to meet other families navigating the joys and challenges of raising bilingual kids in Louisiana.

Stay tuned for the confirmed time. We hope to see you there!

À bientôt!

ULL Publishes Bilingual Book About French Immersion

From ULL Press:

“About the Book

In French Without Borders, contributing authors tackle numerous compelling and imperative aspects of the practical/quotidienne nature of French in North American contexts, including French language education and pedagogy; law, public policy, and leadership; and immigration, tourism, and economics.

As the product of an interdisciplinary and transnational colloquium of scholars and researchers and their mutually supportive conversations, this book represents the interdependent nature of francophone studies and education. The social, economic, and cultural implications of this work are far-reaching, in that they address broad consequences for public policy as well as highlight case studies of interest within specific regions of francophone North America, including the Caribbean. Furthermore, the specific francophone contexts in French Without Borders offer a degree of transferability due to the shared struggle for preserving, promoting, and sustaining French as a minority language.

This edited volume presents a distinct approach to la francophonie in North America, showcasing the voices of numerous stakeholders and their unique perspectives, insights, and knowledge within overlapping and adjacent fields.”

ULL is soon releasing a book for TEACHERS on immersion lesson planning… Updates coming soon!
